Australian Landcare Framework - Community Call For Action Released
The Australian Landcare Council is pleased to announce that the Community Call for Action —the companion document to the Australian Framework for Landcare — is now available.
The Community Call for Action is a guide for stakeholders and prospective partners, including industry, corporations, governments at all levels and regional and catchment organisations, on how they can engage with Landcarers and support Landcare into the future.
The Community Call for Action takes the key elements identified in the Framework and presents community identified strategies to further support and improve the Landcare approach over the next 10 years. It also provides strategies for how Landcarers can contribute to the critical sustainability and environmental issues facing the community.
The council consulted widely with the Landcare community to prepare the Community Call for Action which acknowledges and builds on the incredible amount of work by farmers, volunteers and community groups to conserve our environment and create a more sustainable Australia.
Kim Chance, Chair of the Australian Landcare Council said, “We decided to rename the action plan Community Call for Action to acknowledge that it is the community’s document and reflects the community’s views, key issues and messages provided during the consultation on the Framework and this action plan”.
“The Community Call for Action calls for all Landcare stakeholders and supporters to respond by developing their own complementary strategies and announcing their commitment to Landcare,” Mr Chance said.
“The Landcare approach is based on the philosophy that people from all communities and cultures can actively take responsibility for the health of Australia’s environmental assets - it’s in our hands.”
“We hope that the Community Call for Action will help revive partnerships to better support Landcare and to facilitate information exchange. It aims to build relations and encourage stakeholders to develop and implement their response strategies, and we will work closely with the Australian Government to identity opportunities to help the community fulfill its objectives.”
The council looks forward to receiving commitments from across Australia from new Landcarers and prospective partners to the long term established groups to respond to the Community Call for Action.
The council will formally hand over the Community Call for Action to the community during Landcare week at this year’s National Landcare Conference, held 3-5 September 2012.
