Nicholas Harding: Drawn to Paint - Final day of the exhibition - Sydney
The National Trust of Australia (NSW) is hosting an exhibition, NICHOLAS HARDING: Drawn to paint, from 15 January to 7 March 2010, at its S.H. Ervin Gallery, located at Watson Road (entry from Argyle Street), Observatory Hill, The Rocks, Sydney.
The S.H. Ervin Gallery is committed to highlighting the works of Australian artists, in particular those who have not received adequate attention from larger institutions. In its mission to conserve natural, built and cultural heritage, the National Trust aims to promote the idea of a sense of place and the importance of recognising and preserving unique places. Artist Nicholas Harding documents a distinctly Australian sense of place, in particular Sydney, from its sun drenched beaches and industrial settings to its spectacular flora.
The exhibition surveys Harding’s artistic practice, from 1984 to 2009. This is the first exhibition to showcase the works of this highly regarded artist over a twenty-five year period and covers Harding’s diverse themes of practice - landscapes and industry to portraits and still life. Known predominantly as a painter, this is also the first exhibition to cover Harding’s practice of drawing as both a critical gathering of observations that inform his paintings, as well as equally important artworks. Drawn to paint, explores the artist’s mark making in addition to his recognisable tactile paint application.
NICHOLAS HARDING: Drawn to paint is curated by Steven Alderton. The exhibition is accompanied by a full colour catalogue (available from Gallery Shop January 15, 2010).
Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Sunday 11.00 am – 5.00 pm (last admissions 30 mins before closing). Closed Mondays & Public Holidays. Entry Fees are $7, $5 seniors & concessions, $4 national trust members.
This exhibition has been generously supported by Rex Irwin Art dealer and Philip Bacon Galleries.
