Brunswick Valley Landcare - How Weeds Affect Biodiversity
Brunswick Valley Landcare (BVL) (Far North Coast) has a workshop on Saturday 27 February 2010, 1.30 to 4.30 pm, on ‘How Weeds Affect Biodiversity’ with Mark Evans.
Some of our environmental weeds are having a severe impact on native fauna and flora. If the Richmond Bird Wing butterfly accidentally lays is eggs on the exotic Dutchmans Pipe Vine instead of the native and similar looking Birdwing vine, the caterpillars cannot feed and subsequently die. The commonly called Velcro weed or silver desmodium is so sticky that small animals have died attached to the plant. This workshop will teach you about the effects that environmental weeds are having on biodiversity.
The cost for non BVL members is $5. Afternoon tea provided. Bookings essential: contact Judy MacDonald, BVL Project Officer, on 02 6684 5390 (Wednesdays & Thursdays).
